Somethings Got a Hold on Me was released in 1962 on Etta James Top Ten. It reached number 4 on the U.S. R&B. Avicii (a Sweedish producer/remixer) produced Levels in 2011 which notably uses James' vocals from Something's Got a Hold on Me. I loved how Avicii used the sample to create an amazing dance song. Once you listen to Etta sing the familiar line "Ohhh, I got a good feeling" in the beginning of her song, a smile automatically appears on your face.

Late Nite Tip is a classic Three 6 Mafia song appearing on their Chapter 1: The End album in 1995-1996. They used the sample from Lisa Fischer 1991 album, So Intense. How Can I Ease the Pain went #1 on the U.S. R&B Charts. Both songs are great. Fischer's deep voice and sultry lyrics call for a glass of wine & some lit candles on a stormy night. Three 6 Mafia put a spin on the song by showing that "I'm not the type to get involved in with long relationship".

"True" is the title track from Spandau Ballet's 1983 album True. It was composed by group leader, Gary Kemp, and is a six-minute (in its original album version) slow pop-ballad love song that in part pays tribute to the Motown artist Marvin Gayeand the sound he helped to establish. (Wikipedia). I must admit that video is a little corny, but it was the 80s. I was expecting to get Rick Roll'd at any moment, but I truly like this sound. Lloyd sampled this song on his hit-single You featuring Lil Wayne in 2006.

Michael Sterling recorded Lovers and Friends in 1990 on his album, Trouble. Lil Jon decided to remake this classic on his Crunk Juice album in 2006 with Usher and Ludacris. They did little tweaking to the original besides adding the rap portion. The Ahh-Ahh-Whoo parts at the end are even the same. Which version of Lovers and Friends do you prefer? Do you like the old-school, crooning version or the one with a little bump in the trunk?
